Grover is an 8 year old classically beautiful basset hound who has shown amazing resilience in recovering from a lifetime of neglect and isolation in a backyard pen. Grover has been in a temporary care home to overcome his fear based behaviors as well and to work on house manners expected of an indoor dog. In this atmosphere of kindness with 2 resident bassets serving as role models, Grover has discovered that he enjoys toys, belly rubs, nose kisses and running on grass with his very long ears flying behind him. He loves being with other dogs and is submissive to them. Curious about kitties but unknown as to how he will react if living with one. For a breed known to be loudly vocal, Grover is a quiet boy but will sound the alarm when a stranger approaches his house. He does not jump on people nor does he get on to furniture. He is recently neutered and had his teeth cleaned. He has a condition known as "dry eye" and will need to have medicated drops applied to his eyes daily. He is very good about holding still for his drops. His peripheral vision seems to be limited and it is important that strangers not thrust a hand towards his head or he may growl until realizing he is not going to be hurt. It is unknown as to how he was treated in his former life but the physical and medical neglect as well as lack of socialization require his adopter to be nurturing, patient and kind to him. A home is being sought without small children in which there is a yard and a doggie companion(s).
